Before you fly: shut the main water valve and drain the system (this single step prevents the worst disasters), empty and prop open the fridge, switch off non-essential circuits, store cushions and textiles in sealed bags with moisture absorbers, and bring garden furniture in — winter storms here genuinely relocate sunloungers into neighbours' gardens.
Through the winter: the monthly visit
An empty villa needs a visitor once a month: airing every room, checking humidity, inspecting ceilings and window seals after heavy rain, testing that the alarm and lights still work, and walking the garden for storm damage. After every visit, you should receive a photo report on WhatsApp — that is how we do it, and it is the difference between assuming your villa is fine and knowing it is.

The garden keeps growing through the wet season; winter pruning and occasional strimming mean spring takes one week of tidying instead of one month.
